Why Do I Write Songs? [Part 1]

Songwriting, to me, is a transcendent journey that traverses the realms of reality. It opens doors to magical dimensions unbound by physical constraints. Through the power of music, I embark on a quest to unravel the unique rhythms of every place I encounter in my travels. As I stand there, vulnerable and receptive, I allow the sounds of the world to embrace me, resonating within my soul. This porous connection with the Earth’s breath enables me to tap into the inaudible frequencies that lie beyond the threshold of human perception.

Each song I create becomes a testament to my communion with the planet’s consciousness. If Earth is a living being, my songs are like gentle whispers, triggering a silent response from the enfleshed planet. The Earth, like me, is a hearing being, bearing the echoes of its history in its depths. My compositions become sound inscriptions on the vast canvas of this living, breathing entity.

In the vast pool of silence, I discover the most profound sounds of the planet, hidden within its pulsating breath. Terms like rhythms, tones, timbres, and frequencies serve as the building blocks of life, orchestrating the symphony of existence around me. Learning to listen to a place becomes an infinite quest, and songwriting becomes my entry point into this voyage of perception.

When I find myself in a new place, I immerse myself in the surrounding sounds, absorbing them into my being. With closed eyes, I let these sounds weave through me, merging with my breath, giving birth to a voice. Fragments of breath and melody accumulate within, culminating in a song—an intangible matter of sound. In this act of creation, I become one with the world, leaving an indelible mark upon its consciousness.

As the fifteenth-century French philosopher Rene Descartes famously said, “I think, therefore I am”, I find a more profound expression in, I hear, therefore I am. I listen, therefore I am. Eventually, I sound, therefore I am. Songwriting becomes my tool to claim silence amidst the overwhelming chaos of the world. Through music, I express the essence of life itself, transcending boundaries and sharing my deepest thoughts and emotions with others. Each song becomes a vessel for the rhythmic essence of life, allowing me to share deeply entrenched thoughts and feelings with others.

With my journeys spanning eight countries, each song I write becomes a unique testament to the experiences lived in those places. Everything can be transformed into a song—a language of exploration and discovery- from bustling cities to serene villages, from amusement parks to solemn cemeteries. My lyrics, melodies, and tunes capture the raw, unanticipated, and spontaneous feelings that define the moments of my travels.

One such place, Aarhus, left an everlasting impression on me. It embraced me with warmth and kindness, prompting me to believe that the city itself is a living, breathing entity. The trust shown by a local Danish man, lending me his guitar without hesitation, underscored the rarity of such encounters in a world that sometimes feels devoid of trust. Aarhus instilled in me a profound sense of belonging, a feeling I carry with me to this day.

The encounters with people, places, and their unique stories enrich my soul beyond measure. In turn, I feel a sense of responsibility to share the pleasures of these tales, the sparkling moments that may never repeat. Through songwriting, I strive to ignite a non-replicable spark in the fabric of the planet. Each song I write is a testament to my gratitude and commitment to the world that has shaped me. These compositions are not merely songs; they are stories of becoming—expressions of my evolution through the mystical power of songwriting.
